One of the top five biggest wave spots in the world is located on Maui. Known to locals as Peʻahi, better known to the rest of the world as JAWS. One of the questions we are often asked is; Where is Jaws located? It is located off the Hana Hwy in Haiku-Pauwela between mile markers 13-14, close to the Valley Isle Memorial Park (20.942202,-156.3006880). The Peahi lookout is 1.5 miles down Hahana Road, it is a dirt and often muddy road and requires a four-wheel drive vehicle to reach the remote lookout. For visitors it is best to park in a pull off on Haiku Road and hike in. Most of the time there is not much to see but in the winter months when the swells are biggest is your best chance. We went to the lookout today and man did we get lucky, it was the largest the waves had been in 10 years. Seeing surfers ride theses waves is an amazing site to experience! Great job by all the competitors of the Jaws Challenge, special shout out to Maui locals Billy Kemper and Kai Lenny.
